Summary: In 1952 the United Nations finally condemned the apartheid system, and eventually they opposed it every year in the General Assembly. Ten years later the UN attempted to organize a number of economic sanctions against South Africa, but a number of leading industrial nations refused to participate. Lastly it was declared in the 1980's that the apartheid was a crime against humanity, and many members of the British Commonwealth desired to expel South Africa in 1961 but instead they withdrew.
